Mariam Akabor is a South African author, freelance writer and editor. Her short story collection Flat 9 (2006), which began as a project while studying Creative Writing for her Honours degree, was published when she was 22 years old. She was selected as one of the Grey Street Writers, which forms a part of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Literary Tourism Project. She graduated from UKZN Howard College with a BA Honours degree (cum laude) in Cultural and Media Studies and a Masters in English.
Since becoming a mother, she has written numerous childhood development, parenting and family articles that were published locally in Living and Loving, and internationally in SISTERS, where she also served as a sub-editor. Her travel articles and book reviews have been published on various blogs over the years.
She squeezes in reading, writing, baking, snorkelling and occasional crafting, while raising her two sons with her husband in warm and sunny Durban.
